Finnair is one of the world’s oldest operating airlines, founded in 1923. Since then, we have grown from a small airline to a strong and respected member of the international airline industry.
Our network operating model specialises in passenger and cargo traffic between North America, Asia and Europe. We have a strong brand equity founded on safety, punctuality, and service quality. We have also positioned Finnair as a sustainability leader in European aviation.
A respected and established brand
Finnair is one of the world’s oldest operating airlines, founded in 1923. Our brand equity is founded on safety, punctuality, and high-quality service—principles that are consistently demonstrated through our strong performance in customer-focused commercial and operational metrics such as Net Promoter Score (NPS) and on-time performance. By consistently delivering on core brand promises, we foster customer loyalty and support premium pricing.
Strong presence in Finland
Finnair has a strong presence in Finland and a respected brand across the Nordic region. We are a network carrier and our ability to operate our network safely and punctually has secured our leading Nordic position in feeder traffic from Finland and neighbouring regions into long-haul flights to Asia, North America, Europe and Middle East. Our hub, the modern airport of Helsinki-Vantaa, is among the top rated in the world, and appeals to leisure and business travels alike.
Global reach and revenue diversification through partnerships
Finnair is a long-standing member of the oneworld alliance, one of the world’s three major airline alliances. Our membership in the oneworld alliance increases the size of our global network to more than one 900 destinations in more than 170 countries. We also have deeper cooperation with some of our oneworld partners by participating in Siberian Joint Business and Atlantic Joint Business. Alliance partnerships and joint businesses contribute significantly to our revenue and offer global scalability without needing to invest in more aircraft or destinations. Furthermore, they give us stronger frequent flyer appeal via shared benefits across airlines, which increases customer stickiness.
